ARCHAELOGICAL & HISTORICAL SITES IN KASSANDRA

The most significant archaeological and historical sites in Kassandra are: the ancient site of Mendi in Kalandra, the sanctuary of Ammon Dias and the sanctuary of Dionysos and the Nymphs in Kallithea, the windmill in Kassandreia, the castle ruins and the channel in Nea Potidea, Agios Pavlos Tower and Stavronikitas Tower in Nea Fokea and the ruins of the ancient city in Polygyros.

Petralona Cave

The Cave was created during Jurassic era (~150 million years) by undersea calcite sediments that emerged later on in various phases. Most probably during Mio-Pleiocene, about 5 million years ago, the Cave’s main compartments were formed. Petralona Archanthropus (i.e. an archaic Homo sapiens) has an age of about 700.000 years ago, representing the oldest known Europeoid man. Visit Website
